New Affiliates

Two new ITN affiliates are getting up and running this season, and they have a lot in common despite being in different parts of the country.

One is ITNMetroDetroit, serving several neighborhoods in Detroit and surrounding suburbs that lack a well-developed mass transportation system. The second is ITNMemphis, which will serve riders inside Tennesee's Interstate-240 "loop."

Who Averted Elderly Driver Crash

On June 29, 2012, State Trooper Douglas Cropper got a call about a car going the wrong way on Route 295 in Portland, Maine. He spotted the car, but, unable to flag the driver down, Trooper Cropper turned his car around and exited the highway.
He drove a short distance to the next exit, reentered the highway, and with only a second to spare pulled his car across the median and into the path of the oncoming wrong-way driver. Watch the video caught by his onboard camera.

Older Driver Research

A research project and collaboration between ITNAmerica, ITN affiliates, and Professor Thomas Meuser of the University of Missouri will help validate a test for readiness to transition from driving to alternative transportation.

The psychometric test, developed by Prof. Meuser, is called the Assessment of Readiness for Mobility Transition, or ARMT.

Greater Focus on Content and Customization

In late September, ITNAmerica launched a new website designed to be more functional and informative for ITN users and affiliates.

Among other changes, the site is now more searchable and easier to customize for affiliates. It prioritizes the most valuable user content–such as registration for webinars and newsletter sign-up on the home page.

Since launching, In the first month, the site experienced a 95% increase in visits resulting from searches due to renewed focus on Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

ITNAmerica Welcomes Friends of ITN in Three More States
New Affiliates

ITNAmerica welcomes three new Pre-affiliate communities–Twin Cities, MN; Lehigh Valley, PA; and Central Oklahoma, OK.

Friends of ITNTwinCities -- The Steering Committee for this pre-affiliate grew out of a group of concerned citizens and professionals who began meeting in the summer of 2011 to discuss the need for alternative senior transportation.

The group decided to support the establishment of a local ITN because of the proven track record and the sustainability and flexibility of the model.
